Portrait?

1. Explain the process you went through to develop your drawing.
I first had to trace the shapes of the different values in the face, hair, and neck. Then I had to color the back of the tracing paper and transfer the lines from the tracing paper to my Sketchbook. I then had to add the values to the face, hair, and neck.
2. Explain how you found the different values in the portrait?
I taped the tracing paper to the front of the picture. I then used the light from the sun so I could see the different shapes and values. Once I found the shapes, I traced them. It was a little tricky for me, but I got it to work, with help from Mrs. Rossi.
3.  Did you achieve a full range of the different values within your portrait?  How?
I think I got all of the values into the portrait. I was able to do this by using the picture and my value chart to know what values go where. It was a little hard sense I was only using pencil and I couldn't smudge everything like I wanted, but I did what I could to get it to work.
4. Describe your craftsmanship.  Is the artwork executed and crafted neatly?
My craftsmanship is not as neat as I would like, but it is hard to keep the paper clean when there is so much lead on the paper and your hands. Other than that I think my craftsmanship and the artwork itself are rather neat.
5. List any obstacles you had to overcome and how you dealt with them.     The main obstacle was finding the different values in the face. I got over that by using the light from the sun and by getting Mrs. Rossi to help me figure out where I need to focus and get more values from.

Thinking...

The final project was really cool. Except for my sphere.
2. If this was a group project, what was your contribution?
    N/A
3. How successful do you feel this piece is and why?
I feel this piece was pretty successful because I was able to take what we learned in class and use it in oil pastels to make 3D forms.
4. What worked about this project? What didn’t work?
Blending worked great on this project and so did getting the shape of the cone and cube. Getting the shape of the sphere did not work on this project.
5. If you were to do this project over again, what changes would you consider making?
I would only like to change what my sphere looks like.
6. What was the most difficult part about completing this piece and why?
Figuring out what colors to use because there were some combinations I would like to have used, but they would not have worked out.
7. What did you learn from this piece?
I learned how to blend colors with oil pastels and how to use value to define edges and shapes.
