Tic-Tac-Toe 3 In A Row

I really don't like my final project. It just doesn't look very good to me. I think if I had used a different game it would have turned out a little better, because tic tac toe just didn't have enough to use in perspective. The only 3D objects I had for the game were the pieces and then the lines were all straight and had nothing really going on. I really wish I did a different game. This game just doesn't have enough going on. It's so bland. I thought that using a simple game would make it easier to do and make it look better, but I was very wrong. If I could do this project again I would definately change the game I did. I really feel like nothing actually worked on this project. I think that out of all of the projects I've done so far in this class, this is by far my worst one. I really do not like how it turned out. The pencil sketch was bad and so was the watercolor washes and so was the colored pencil part.

Describe the process you went through to change your object into the correct perspective to create the drawing. This is when you were in the lab.

In order to get the object how I needed it for the anamorphosis drawing I had to find a picture online and then put it into photoshop. Once I got it in photoshop I scaled and transformed the picture so it would be really short and small at the bottom and very wide at the top.

 

How did distorting and stretching the object allow for you to create a drawing that would look different to the viewer?

This made it so when you look at the drawing from a certain perspective it will look like the actual object. But if you look at it from the wrong view it will look like a distorted version of the object.  

What were the most important concepts in the project to make it successful?

I think the most important concept that helped make this project a success is using value. Using value made it look real. I used value by adding shadows and blending the colored pencils. Another concept that helped was using the grid. Using the grid helped me keep my object looking the same when I was sketching the picture.

VROOOM

1. Explain how you changed your photo in the lab to create a stencil.

    I found different pictures and put them in photoshop and messed with the threshold so the pictures showed their positve and negative space. After I did this I printed them out.

2. When creating the collage background explain your choices of colors, materials (magazine paper, books pages, etc), and placement. How does it relate to your topic? If no relation discuss general idea.

     For the background of my collage I just used things that I thought were cool (ie. guns and knive) to go with my really cool car. I chose colors that would have cool contrast as well.

3. Discuss the way positive and negative space was used to create your stencil.

    I used positive and negative space to figure out what parts of my stencil I wanted to cut out of my stencil. Which is also trying to figure out what shapes I wanted to have the spray paint show.

4. When using the xacto knife, explain the safety procedures, how to use the knife and any challenges you had to overcome while cutting.

    When using an xacto knife, you should always have a cutting board underneath what you are cutting and you should always cut away from you.

5. How was your experience with the spray paint? Discuss how color choice is important, placement of stencil, and any other concepts you noticed while creating this. 
   I really liked using the spray paint. It was a lot of fun. When using the spray paint you have to use colors that go well together and you should really try to use contrast.

Linoleum

 

 

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).

      I think the overall compostion of my artwork is balanced and unified.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?

      I added contrast by cutting out parts. this is important because it takes the art work to the next level.

3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.

      I used positive shapes to make the bodies show. I did that by cutting away the negative space to let the positive space show.

4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)

      The craftsmanship is okay. I'm not very good at cutting or printing though.....

5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back- ground? Explain.

      No. With the view I chose to do, I couldn't get all the 3 "grounds" in my print. If I had tried to do so, I would have lost the bear and probably the tree also.

6.     Explain your experience with Printmaking. What were the obstacles and advantages?
       I don't like printmaking. It was hard and stupid.

When a bear walks through the woods.

1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?

     Texture is so important for our sketches because it brings everything out of the paper. It makes everything look more life-like. If we didn't add texture then everything would look 2D and boring. Adding texture adds just a little bit more and makes the sketch look even better and pop out more.

2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.

     It is neccessary to have several references of each animal and background because it allows you to take the best assets from each and put them into one. Say one picture has a great view of the head but not the body, then another picture has a good body, but a bad head, and the final picture could be for the texture. And the same goes for the background. What one picute might have and not have, another picture might have what was missing.

3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this? 

    Yes I can. It all depends on the contrast and how well the sketch looks. If the sketch looks really good but all of the texture looks the same and there is no contrast, then it won't make a good print. But if you have the contrast then it will make a really good print.

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.

    Working as a team worked very well with most of the group I was in. We were all able to say our ideas and we all decided as a group what we were going to do. This allowed us to get what we needed done with out a lot of confusion.

2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.

    It is very important to collaborate while in a team. Collaboration ensures that everyone knows what is going on and what their part in the work is. It also gets everyone working together and getting to know each other a little better.

3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.

     I think this project was very successful. We were able to get a lot of value into the tree and the mountains. It would have been even better if we didn't run out of chalk so fast.

4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Invoving the whole school? 

    I think that creating artwork that people can interact with is a really cool idea. That way it gives everyone a chance to be part of the art. It also makes the courtyard a little more fun. Letting students, and staff if they want to interact also, "play" with the scenes whenever they're in the courtyard.

Portrait?

1. Explain the process you went through to develop your drawing.

     I first had to trace the shapes of the different values in the face, hair, and neck. Then I had to color the back of the tracing paper and transfer the lines from the tracing paper to my Sketchbook. I then had to add the values to the face, hair, and neck.

2. Explain how you found the different values in the portrait?

    I taped the tracing paper to the front of the picture. I then used the light from the sun so I could see the different shapes and values. Once I found the shapes, I traced them. It was a little tricky for me, but I got it to work, with help from Mrs. Rossi.

3.  Did you achieve a full range of the different values within your portrait?  How?

     I think I got all of the values into the portrait. I was able to do this by using the picture and my value chart to know what values go where. It was a little hard sense I was only using pencil and I couldn't smudge everything like I wanted, but I did what I could to get it to work.

4. Describe your craftsmanship.  Is the artwork executed and crafted neatly?

     My craftsmanship is not as neat as I would like, but it is hard to keep the paper clean when there is so much lead on the paper and your hands. Other than that I think my craftsmanship and the artwork itself are rather neat.

5. List any obstacles you had to overcome and how you dealt with them.     The main obstacle was finding the different values in the face. I got over that by using the light from the sun and by getting Mrs. Rossi to help me figure out where I need to focus and get more values from.
